A luxe tower on Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz
The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin’s 230-foot-tall sandstone building has been a major part of Potsdamer Platz’s post-reunification skyline since it opened in 2004.
Though relatively unassuming from the outside, the interior is every bit as glamorous as you would expect from this established luxury brand, from the smiling, top-hatted doorman who whisks your bags to the reception desk before you’re out of the taxi, to the marble columns, double staircase and crystal chandeliers of the lavish lobby.
The hotel’s amenities span the sophisticated yet relaxed German restaurant POTS and two refined bars. Staff is immaculately groomed and professionally trained, and everyone from business guests to families are taken care of.
With big-hitter sights like the Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial and the Reichstag a short stroll away, and the vast, leafy Tiergarten right next door, you couldn’t wish for a better location. The Kulturforum – an ensemble of museums built to rival the Museum Island in the former East – is around the corner and includes the highly regarded Gemäldegalerie (Portrait Gallery).

Our Inspector's Highlights
- Each of the 303 recently refreshed guest rooms feature a modern interpretation of classic art deco style — think oversized geometric headboards, black accented marble bathrooms and pops of rich color in hues of purple, yellow and burgundy.
- The hotel has a central location. Very close by is the glitzy Sony Center, which hosts the Berlinale each February and the permanent German Film Museum, as well as a few original pieces of the historic Berlin Wall, which used to run right through the area.
- Fragrances is one of the city’s most boundary-pushing cocktail bars. High-end perfumes inspire the drinks, and each sip is a fragrant experience.
- The interiors of the Berlin hotel were recently reimagined by GA Group Budapest and Swiss-based Carbone Interior Design AG. The new look pays tribute to the city's golden age of cinema with 1920s-style geometric patterns and plenty of marble.
- The Ritz Kids program welcomes little ones with a special check-in, gifts, appropriately sized bathrobes and slippers, drawing kits, treasure hunts and kiddie afternoon tea. Cribs, car seats and prams are also available.
Things to Know
- While there isn’t an onsite spa, the hotel provides a wellness area with Finnish and steam saunas, a pool and a fitness room.
The Rooms
- The 303 refreshed guest rooms continue the luxury hotel’s art deco feel with striking geometric design details, pops of purple and opulent marble bathrooms.
- Luxurious touches echo Germany's golden age of cinema in the 1920s. Look out for well-lit makeup tables and sleek honor bars that call to mind the elegant dressing rooms of silver screen starlets.
- Contemporary touches include bedside panels that control everything from room lighting and an electronic “do not disturb” sign to built-in charging stations and flat-screen TVs.
- Most rooms have views across Potsdamer Platz or the Tiergarten park, though the upper floors are where you’ll find the larger suites and club rooms (which have access to the 10th-floor Club Lounge).
- The luxurious 12th-floor Ritz-Carlton apartment, a whopping 3,100 square feet, offers a fully equipped office, dining room, living room, private elevator and bathroom with a marble bath and a glass shower with an extensive tropical rain panel.
The Restaurants
- At the Potsdamer Platz hotel’s new POTS restaurant, sup on classic Germain cuisine with a modern twist. Dine on shared plates from executive chef Frederik Grieb like Bavarian meatballs with riesling sauce or filet and cheek of veal with vanilla carrots.
- While the food is certainly a highlight, POTS' interior design is equally as thoughtful. Bold, bronze accents reference the heavy kettles in which German beer is traditionally brewed.
- Finely cut sandwiches and more than 40 curated Mariage Frères teas (served by a certified Tea Master) can be enjoyed in the lobby.
- Be transported to Havana at the Latin-inspired Curtain Club, where live jazz and expertly mixed cocktails by talented mixologist Arnd Heissen are the order of the day.
- For a unique cocktail experience, head for Fragrances, where sips (also crafted by Heissen) are created based on your scent preferences.
