The Peninsula Spa Beverly Hills may be petite, with only seven treatment rooms, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in its huge range of treatments, serene serenity lounges and superlative service.
The spa was the first in North America to offer the Shiffa precious gem oils, which contain micro-fine fragments of the aforementioned sparklers. The Shiffa services menu—massages and body scrubs—can be customized with your gem of choice, each of which comes with its own healing powers.
The spa’s location off the roof garden means that the poolside cabanas may be used for alfresco massages, a great way to take in the warm California sun.
Our Inspector's Highlights
- The entire design of the spa offers an uncluttered and modern approach that is utterly relaxing and comfortable. The colors evoke air and water — themes you'll find throughout the Los Angeles spa.
- The chic rooms have white and gray marble walls and cream and gray marble-tiled floors with soft, plush cream rugs. Sea-foam green consoles are stocked with chilled towels, citrus-infused ice water and whole fresh fruit.
- Treatment rooms are simple and cozy, with dark blue walls, wooden floors and soft massage beds with white linens. A soft, glowing rock lamp sits on the counter area next to a sink. There's also a hook on the wall for you to hang your robe.
- Around the corner from the reception area, the Serenity Lounge is stocked with plenty of magazines and newspapers to read, iced tea and water to keep you hydrated, and chocolates, seasonal mini muffins, fresh fruit and an assortment of nuts to keep you satiated.
- When your service concludes, your therapist will offer some honey ginger tea — take her up on it. It's a great ending to a relaxing treatment.
Things to Know
- Although the salon is located separately from the spa, the spa’s friendly staff will be more than happy to coordinate your desired beauty services.
- If you’re heading to The Peninsula Hotel with kids in tow, you’ll need to know that children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult when visiting the spa.
- For moms and dads who want their child to get in on the fun at this Four-Star spa, you can treat your kids to a mini manicure or pedicure.
- You don’t have to venture down to the spa for your treatment. Most massages are easy to have performed in your room, as they don’t require making too much of a mess — however, if you’re getting a wrap or a scrub, you may want to visit the spa for those.
- It doesn’t matter what you wear on your spa day because once you arrive, you’ll get your own Frette bathrobe complete with the Peninsula logo to put on.
The Treatments
- The Peninsula Signature Custom Massage is customized to you and your needs. During our last visit to the spa, our therapist spent time explaining where we needed work on our muscles and how to heal certain issues we had — tension in the shoulders, upset stomach — using a holistic approach.
- With the Shiffa Precious Gem Oil Massage, each gem has its own specific healing powers. The sapphire massage brings peace and tranquility and uses reflexology; the ruby massage brings happiness and vitality and will leave you feeling more balanced; the emerald massage brings strength and will help to detoxify your body; the diamond massage brings harmony and eases tension with hot stones and a scalp massage.
- If you don’t mind pressure, Reflexology is a good massage for you. Pressure is applied to reflex points on both your hands and feet, which are related directly to certain organs in your body.
- A treat for your feet, the Micro Infusion Pedicure does more than just make your toes look pretty. A foot microdermabrasion removes dead and calloused skin, leaving them smooth and soft.
- Advanced technology used in The Peninsula Age Defying Facial allows you to achieve beautiful skin, without any pain or recovery time. Microcurrent and "ultrasonic" microdermabrasion will give you results, making your skin look younger, thus making you look younger.
The Facilities
- Decorated in blue, green and cream hues, the quiet relaxation space features lounge chairs and a secluded nook that is draped off. If you and a friend want more privacy, you can crawl into this space, cover yourself with a blanket and prop your legs up on an ottoman.
- Anything you need will be stocked in the locker room — there’s shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the showers and everything from shower caps and hairspray to razors and nail files in the vanity areas.
- Both men and women will find eucalyptus steam rooms in the locker areas. Be sure to sit in here for a few minutes before or after your treatment to loosen any tight muscles — you won’t be disappointed.
