Mott 32 Singapore

Contemporary Chinese with a side of flair
VERIFIED LUXURY

Once you’ve tired yourself from walking around The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, recharge with an unforgettable dining experience at Mott 32 Singapore. This restaurant, the fourth from the Hong Kong-based Maximal Concepts restaurant group, showcases authentic Cantonese and Szechuan recipes in a vibrant dining room that cooks something up for all the senses.

From a façade reminiscent of a traditional Singapore shophouse to a lush, greenhouse-style dining room, cameras need be at the ready from the moment you arrive. Keeping with the photogenic theme, dishes such as crispy wagyu short ribs and smoked black cod come out so perfectly plated, you’d think a magazine photo shoot had been scheduled. But truthfully, the whole Mott 32 experience is a worthy one, be it for your appetite or your social media timeline.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Unlike Mott 32 Hong Kong’s slightly surreal feel or the Las Vegas outpost’s more flashy approach, noted designer Joyce Wang went with a more flora-forward aesthetic this time. Walls are covered in plants. Leaf-printed pillows dot booths. And though the Orangery dining alcove is draped in overgrown foliage, it still feels polished and prim.
  • Mott 32 staples include the applewood-roasted Peking duck, honey-glazed barbecue pluma Iberico pork and crispy prawns with salty egg yolk and oatmeal (the latter dish is exclusive to the Singapore restaurant).
  • The kitchen also prides itself on having a menu of seasonal Chinese dishes. When you visit in warmer months, you’ll find braised crab casserole, and stop by when it’s cooler, and you’ll be rewarded with crispy rice-coated chicken or double-boiled abalone soup.
  • Not to be outdone by the kitchen’s contributions, the bar shakes up a colorful array of cocktails. From the refreshingly red Five Spice Sherry to the golden-hued Pineapple Tart, Mott 32’s meticulous mixologists ensure your table toasts with vibrancy.
  • Besides the frame-worthy dishes arriving at your table, the literal works of art on Mott 32’s walls are also to be commended. Calligraphy-inspired pieces, a bespoke painting of a lion (the country’s national animal) and Joe Joe Ngai’s works turn heads throughout the space.

Things to Know

  • The restaurant’s name pays homage to New York City’s first Chinese convenience store, which opened in 1851 at 32 Mott Street. Hints of metal mesh and rust in the dining room serve as nods to the Big Apple’s industrial spirit.
  • Dinner isn’t the only time to enjoy Mott 32. A delightful lunch menu (highlighted by hot and sour Shanghainese soup dumplings) and a weekend afternoon tea have their famished faithful.
  • The dress code at Mott 32 is smart casual.
