Hôtel Quintessence
Mont-Tremblant's lakeside marvel
VERIFIED LUXURY
We verify luxury. Our highly trained inspectors visit every property we rate, evaluating based on up to 900 objective criteria. Our hotel stays span a minimum of two nights.
We pay our own way. No one can buy a rating; all ratings are earned through our objective inspection process.
Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest.
While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience goes beyond how your surroundings look — how your visit makes you feel is what you will remember most.
We started in 1958 as Mobil Travel Guide, and we created the original Five-Star rating system for hospitality.
Five-Star
These are outstanding, often iconic properties with virtually flawless service and amazing facilities.
Four-Star
These are exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facility to match.
Recommended
These are excellent properties with consistently good service and facilities.
Soon To Be Rated
As our highly trained, incognito inspectors work to assess properties, our editors check them out ahead of time and provide a sneak preview of what to expect.
Shrouded by trees and surrounded by rock on the very edge of an iconic lake in Quebec’s Laurentians region is Hôtel Quintessence, a 30-room boutique hotel at the base of Mont-Tremblant.
The hotel’s name, Quintessence (pronounced KIN-tess-awnse), is a nod to the mythical fifth essential element — when added to earth, air, fire and water, quintessence is that indefinable, untouchable ingredient representing purity, soul and spirit, the very essence of heaven. Indeed, the boutique hotel strives to add that element to your stay.
Twisting nature paths, an infinity pool and proximity to Tremblant’s great ski slopes keep you hungry for the traditional French fare with Quebec products served in the hotel’s La Quintessence Restaurant & Winebar.
Spacious accommodations in the all-suite hotel that offer true indulgence: granite baths, deep carpet and deeper claw-foot tubs, plus wood-burning fireplaces and king-size beds in every room. You’ll have your own piece of heaven.

Our Inspector's Highlights
- Hôtel Quintessence — or as locals call it, “Hotel Q” — is located two hours (about 80 miles) northwest of Montreal in the Laurentians region of Quebec, Canada.
- The hotel occupies a quiet corner of Mont-Tremblant, a well-known ski destination established in the 1930s by Philadelphia magnate Joe Ryan.
- Its location on the edge of Lac Tremblant offers cool respite in summer; its proximity to the ski slopes and lifts on Mont-Tremblant (a five-minute walk) make this boutique hotel a luxurious portal to winter fun.
- Urbane wine lovers will enjoy a glass at Winebar, by the fire or in deep armchairs along the glass windows that provide a peek into the bar’s 3,000-bottle, main-floor wine cellar. Each of Winebar’s waiters is a certified sommelier, so you can be confident in their recommendations.
Things to Know
- When the ski slopes of Tremblant are in full swing, there are 95 trails for novice, intermediate and advanced skiers.
- The holidays may be the most special time to visit: A 15-foot Christmas tree stands in the lobby, and on Hôtel Quintessence’s waterfront terrace, a 30-foot tree covered in white lights acts as the hotel’s beacon on the edge of the snowy, frozen lake.
- Often on Saturday evenings, a pianist is invited to entertain the crowds at the Mont-Tremblant bar, or a band warms up the room and tables are cleared away for dancing.
The Restaurants
- Hôtel Quintessence’s La Quintessence Restaurant & Winebar is a joint two-venue spot presided over by chef Jean-Luc de la Bruère.
- The restaurant is one of Tremblant Resort’s most chic dining establishments, with a warm and sophisticated ambiance and one of the region’s most refined wine lists.
- The formal dining room, La Quintessence Restaurant, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overlooking the boutique hotel’s terrace, gardens and Lac Tremblant, the French restaurant offers an ambiance is tailored yet welcoming and a menu that’s comforting yet surprising.
- Expect everything from a starter of foie gras ice cream with pink salt to an entrée of shepherd’s pie with deer and wild boar and foie gras butter sticks.
- Next door and serving the same dinner menu, the Mont-Tremblant hotel’s Winebar is more casual, with leather bar stools, deep arm chairs, the warm glow of candlelight and a roaring fire.
