Hotel Casa Fuster

Barcelona’s modernist boutique hotel
VERIFIED LUXURY
Lauded Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí’s Casa Milà overshadows the buildings along Passeig de Gràcia, but just several blocks away is Hotel Casa Fuster, a piece from one of his modernist contemporaries.

Lluis Domènech i Montaner may not be as well-known as Gaudí, but the architect boasts an impressive pedigree: Several of his works have been named World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Combining a modernist atmosphere, distinctive architecture and a mix of art deco and contemporary furnishings, the lobby has black mosaic floor and fluted pillars. Dark colors and subtle, modern designs help create peaceful guest rooms. You need to visit the hotel — even if it’s just for a drink.

Though the best place for a libation is on the hotel’s rooftop terrace. Soak up the a panoramic view of Barcelona with small bites and a cocktail in hand.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Every Thursday night, Café Vienés transforms into an exclusive Jazz Club. Full of locals and tourists, it is a place not be missed. Listen to music from the likes of the Yoshida Brothers and Conal Fowkes.
  • The Barcelona hotel has a great location on Passeig de Gràcia, the city’s best upscale shopping street.
  • The Mirador Blue View by Bombay Sapphire Terrace offers the best vistas of Passeig de Gràcia. When the sun comes out on a clear blue day, you can see the Mediterranean Sea.
Things to Know
  • Wealthy Majorcan Mariano Fuster commissioned Casa Fuster in 1908 as a gift to his wife. The couple lived there and held grand society receptions in the ornate ground-floor salon (now Café Vienés). In the ’60s, it became the local electrical company headquarters until its current owners bought it, refurbished it and converted it into a jewel.
  • Woody Allen plays his saxophone here every time he comes to Barcelona. It is one of his favorite spots.
  • The luxury hotel was one of the locations of the Oscar-winning film Vicky Cristina Barcelona directed by Allen.
  • Near Casa Fuster, you’ll find the bohemian Gràcia neighborhood. Go there to discover eclectic boutiques and cool international restaurants.
The Rooms
  • The 105 rooms and suites are decorated in warm, neutral tones and fabrics with a welcoming and contemporary feel.
  • Accommodations have spacious marble bathrooms with tubs.
  • The Deluxe room is a great option with views over Passeig de Gràcia and a large walk-in dresser.
  • If you need more space, the Senior Suite comes with a large living room, fantastic vistas and even a private sauna.
The Restaurants
  • Make a point to dine in the bright, intimate Aleia Restaurant, which debuted in November 2021. Try decorated chef Paulo Airaudo's daring tasting menu at the fine-dining establishment.
  • Café Vienés is one of the most-visited places in town. A historical meeting place for intellectuals, the space now draws in people who want to nibble on tapas like patatas bravas (fried potatoes with aioli) and Iberian cured ham croquettes while sipping cava.
  • The sixth-floor Mirador Blue View terrace is where to go for cocktails in the summertime. It helps that the small pool is there as well.
