Fairmont Century Plaza

Old Hollywood gets modern makeover
VERIFIED LUXURY

Six years in the making and $2.5 billion later, a star is reborn in Century City. Fairmont Century Plaza, formerly the iconic Century Plaza Hotel, is a dazzling new addition to the Avenue of the Stars. Among industry giants like Westfield Century Plaza, Creative Artists Agency and J.P. Morgan, the 16-story hotel that was a former site of a 20th Century Studios backlot is a hot spot for both business and leisure guests.

Reinvented by design firm Yabu Pushelberg, Fairmont Century Plaza retains its midcentury panache with fabulous additions throughout, including modern art installations (don’t miss meeting Laura, Jaume Plensa’s 23-foot sculpture out front), a French brasserie, a 14,000-foot spa, an immense fitness center, a cocktail lounge, a rooftop pool and a Fairmont Gold hotel-within-a-hotel.

Although there are fewer rooms in the new Century Plaza, the 400 accommodations, including 83 suites, are now more spacious. Updates include elegant minimalist decor in calming neutral gray and white hues, marble bathrooms, Nespresso machines and signature luxurious bedding.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Need your Paris fix without the flight? Lumière — the hotel’s all-day restaurant — will transport you to a bustling café in Saint-Germain. From the French antique furnishings and zinc bar, to brasserie classics, like steak frites, a seafood tower and duck confit, the restaurant will have you saying, “C'est magnifique.”
  • Like the cherry on top of an already impressive stay, the hotel staff — from bellhops to bartenders — is a luxury version of Cheers, where everybody knows your name, delivering warm, generous service in spades.
  • Fairmont Spa Century Plaza is a wellness wonderland. As the second-largest hotel spa in L.A., it offers an array of customized services, from traditional treatments, like massage and facials, to biohacking modalities, like lymphatic drainage and neurotransmitter therapy.
  • Separate from the main luxury hotel with its own street access and culinary offerings, Fairmont Century Plaza’s event space — with an expansive ballroom that’s among the city’s biggest — is one of L.A.’s most flexible yet bespoke spots for large gatherings, such as weddings, conferences and charity galas. It also was home to the 1967 Emmy and 1971 Grammy awards.
  • For a private check-in desk, a members-only lounge, a 24-hour personal assistant and an on-demand martini cart to bring happy hour to you, opt for the Fairmont Gold upgrade.

Things to Know

  • As a nod to the L.A. hotel’s history as a favorite haunt of iconic musical artists (think Frank Sinatra and Sonny and Cher), the lobby lounge heats up every Tuesday through Saturday with themed live music nights, from crooner classics to show tunes.
  • Every room has a spacious balcony (a rarity in Los Angeles), but the most expansive views are westward-facing rooms, above the seventh floor.
  • Prefer working out in privacy? Ask for the in-room Technogym kit, complete with a yoga mat, foam roller, mobility ball and more, and flip on your TV for Three Sages workouts or yoga routines.
  • Dr. Rita Rakus, known as the “London Lip Queen,” opened her first U.S. outpost in Fairmont Spa Century Plaza with a menu of lip-enhancing treatments.
